Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-character alphanumeric identifier issued by the Income Tax Department. PAN is mandatory for filing income tax returns, opening bank accounts, and conducting high-value financial transactions. Apply through Form 49A (Indian citizens) or Form 49AA (foreign nationals) via NSDL or UTIITSL portals.
