Trust Registration

Trust Registration

A Trust is one of the most common legal structures for running charitable or religious activities in India. Governed by the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 (for private trusts) and respective state laws (for public trusts), a trust is created through a Trust Deed executed on stamp paper and registered with the Sub-Registrar of Assurances. A minimum of 2 trustees is required, with one serving as the Managing Trustee.

Important Points:

  • Minimum 2 trustees required
  • Trust Deed must be executed on non-judicial stamp paper and registered with the Sub-Registrar
  • Irrevocable once registered (for public trusts)
  • Ideal for charitable, educational, religious, and social welfare activities
  • Registration timeline: 7–15 working days
