The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA) registration is mandatory for any NGO wishing to receive foreign donations, grants, or contributions. Administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), FCRA registration requires the NGO to have been in existence for at least 3 years and to have spent a minimum of ₹15 lakh on its core activities during the last 3 years. A designated FCRA bank account must be maintained with the SBI, New Delhi main branch.
Important Points:
- Mandatory for receiving foreign donations (cash, kind, or securities)
- NGO must be at least 3 years old with ₹15 lakh+ spent on core activities
- Designated FCRA account at SBI, New Delhi Main Branch (mandatory)
- Prior Permission route available for newer NGOs for specific projects
- Valid for 5 years; renewal required before expiry
- Filing with Ministry of Home Affairs through the FCRA portal
